About Us
Tabarak Muslim Orphanage was established on February 4th, 2005 by women who had a vision of giving back to the community. Our target groups are all orphans regardless of cause, race, gender or tribe. We have walked a long journey in the service of being a guardian to the orphans as instructed by the Prophet Mohammed.
Tabarak was founded by Asha Ramadhan. Asha and her sister grew up with a lifestyle where they always had to question if they would have enough food and water for the day. They had to sacrifice their education for basic needs. She vowed that no child under her care would ever go through the struggle she went through and decided to start an orphanage.
She started by caring for 20 orphans in her one bedroom house. She made her money to support them by selling Chapatti on the streets. Moving around and trying to find a stable environment was challenging, however, Tabarak has settled into a permanent space that is becoming a home to many orphans. Now supporting nearly 50 children, having a stable environment is necessary. After past hardships bringing a slow to the success of Tabarak, Asha’s love and determination kept things going.
“We shared the little we had. We didn’t have much, but we were happy”, stated Asha during this hardship.
We also work with children through home-based care if their family is not able to support them. As well as our focus on the children, we also care for widowers in our surrounding community. We try our best to ensure that our community is a safe, secure, and welcoming place for everyone.
During the years, Tabarak has been through many struggles to truly test their determination. We are so happy to be where we are today and want to continue building our success.
Meet Our Board Members
Asha Pili Ramadan
Director/ Founder and Mother
In 2005, I began my journey of taking care orphans within Mombasa. This was not an easy journey for me but it was I wanted to do. We are faced with numerous challenges but the smile on our faces keep us going.
I am very happy that I have people who have stood with us through the most difficult times. I welcome all with the likeminded mind to help raise these wonderful children and give them a hope and a future.
Steve Brian Omondi
Social Worker/ Administrator
My love for social work began when I was a child. I was raised in an orphanage from the age of 4. I joined Tabarak children’s home 4 years ago as a volunteer. My roles consist of administration and child protection implementation. As the administrator, I can see we are facing a lot of financial challenges. I hope to bring more donors in for our family and increase the support to our children and employees.
Ali Mkadam
Assistant Director
I am the only biological child of the director, Asha Pili Ramadhan. I have grown to share my mother’s love with the children that live under our roof. I took upon the role of ensuring safety for the children. It is my duty to God and to human kind that I see my little sisters and brothers through the stages of development and most importantly, happy.
We are in much need of child sponsors who can assist in education support of the children and it is our appeal that beautiful souls will come along to help us make the world a better place.
Arissa Barton
International Coordinator
I traveled to Mombosa, Kenya in January of 2021. I was instantly welcomed into Asha’s home and treated like family. She offered dinner to me every single night, as well as many other individuals in the community. She would never ask for anything in return. Seeing the way she stands up for her kids and ensures their happiness warmed my heart forever. After being in Kenya for nearly six months, I had the amazing opportunity to join their board as the International Coordinator. I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing family.
